Kyoyaki
Kyoyaki is ceramics made in Kyoto Kiyomizuyaki is most well-known at the present.
Production of ceramics in Kyoto has a long history. It is said that Gyogi established a kiln at Seikanji, Higashiyama in early 8th century. The style and skill have been changed since then. However, Kyoyaki is still nobly elegant as what is used to be. At the late of the Edo era, economical activities came to have priority and the demand for style were diversified and various kind of ceramics were produced. Therefore, the technical level of Kyoyaki was greatly raised. Because of this, many potters came to Kyoto to learn this skill and it continues to the present.
